Hello to Groupies,

You may see me as a 'newbie' coming here but I've been on the Internet since 1999 and been through several 'space' group commuinities including one I had run for almost 9 years. Only as a moderator level I have to say.

It was at an MSN forum and when they changed the format, nearly everything (when it came to files, posting, pics and links,etc.) had to be deleted of which I could not save on my own. Few returned and few supported any further continuation of a group interest.

I moved on and came and went as memberships to a half dozen or so sites since then. A few (I must confess) had even banned me. Of such knowledge of this now, one may suspect I may be trouble. I assure you, I am not. I'm just out for truthful and realistic opinion and thought.

I must ask however, who does have the moderator status and even, creatorship of this particular group? I've read over some of the past few years of postings and saw obvious 'comes and goes' of the supporting members. The average life of these sites are around 3 to 4 years. But the thing about Yahoo Groups is that the files are kept almost to infinity unless the creator wipes it out.

This has been discouraging for me as I wind up finding that most groups of age have been taken over by spam and smut messaging.

I hope that I can submit some questions and material relevant to this group's interests and add some items that would be worthy of your reading such subjectmatter. Pictures included.

I've seen by reading some of the history of postings, individuals I have exchanged messages in the past at other sites. So these areas of subjects will come to no surprise and maybe there can be a form of reunions. Maybe not.

After all, isn't that the main reason for group communities as being the founders of social networking well before Facebook, My Space, Twitter, etc.?

I am the creator and moderator. Indeed Space Settlers has been very
long-lived; I suspect that the cause of that is that everyone here has
a lot of freedom of speech - basically only spamming equals banning.
At the same time, I have seen that there is a sort of "passive
collaborative moderation", so to speak, with users avoiding to feed
eventual trolls and abandoning threads too much off topic.

You can post those to the files section of the group. The only
guideline in that matter is to avoid chain-posting too much material
sequentially, which may overwhelm and annoy other users; we had some
problems related to that in the past.

Lucio, I've never taken the time to thank you for your service here.
This is indeed a great group, with an unusually high signal/noise ratio.
Your calm leadership is surely a big factor in that.

WOW !!! Creator AND Moderator, I hereby nominate Lucio for
CEO & Chairman of the Board for Spacesettlers
Colony Construction Enterprises! Now we have names for our
first 2 Island One size colonies (the "Combs" & the "Coelho"
Colonies). I favor locating them at Deimos but would yield on
this if majority votes to locate them elsewhere (eg adjacent to
an asteroid or on surface of moon or Mars).
Also, can anyone identify a Space Shuttle shown for a couple
of seconds here. It is at 1:46 or 1:47 on timer bar at bottom

Like Harry I've been cruising the internet for some time watching quite
a few space advocacy groups come and go, a lot of them keep returning
to the same old stuff without inputting anything more recent than the
latest Orbiter launch.
