At the risk of sounding like a "me, too" post, I
applaud your efforts Panamabob and others. Of course
I would buy some of these tickets, and many others as
well. It would be good to at least try and get some
people in the Mars Society, Planetary Society, etc
interested in your proposal. Perhaps someday members
of the first, fledgling colony can also be chosen by
lottery.

On the subject of charity-type giving: Wish that
the market research types out there could figure out a
palatable way to pitch donating to space programs to
the rich. I hear of rich people donating 10-20
million or more to universities, to programs to feed
the poor or take care of starving children in Africa.
And I wish that some of that could be diverted to
space uses. But to many people Space=NASA=large
taxpayer funded gov't program (and why should they
give even MORE money to the gov't). Some way to tie
in a charitable purpose to space colonization would be
nice. Perhaps Farms in Space to grow food to feed the
hungry, etc. And Religions whith all of their vast
sums... "Come to our monastery on the Moon and get
closer to the Almighty!" Hmmm, maybe the Catholics
could send all those naughty priests there ;-)

The more groups that we 'rope in' to our purpose
the more space colonies we can get under construction.

Good show Mike!
Lets hear from everyone on this. If we cant get responses from the
hundred and a half folks on this list, then we probably don't have
any business going elsewhere. We ARE suppose to be fanatics about
this after all!

This is something that is possible we can do, something actually
doable by us with our resources. Lets hear some brainstorming, some
affirmation, some build-on to the idea.

Name ideas, other spin-offs, ideas for additional sponsors, other
groups to contact...

Take a look at my poll. I used to think that lotteries would be very
successful, but even the "space fanatics" in this group don't seem
inclined to pay the stupid tax, so I don't think that lotteries have
much chance of success (no pun intended.)

Keep up the good ideas.

I can appreciate your sentiment, a vote of 24 people out of 150 seems pretty
lax, but in all fairness i did not even notice the poll until you mentioned
it...perhaps others did as well?

Then again if you consider that around 15% of members voted that may mean
that similar percentage of other folks may do so as well.
:-)

Seriously many people are bored with the standard lottery, and thats the
reason why new themes are constantly being introduced, at least in
Florida... scratch and win etc. Space seat may be a novelty to add to the
standard offering at your neighborhood conveneince store and perhaps a way
that the masses could feel they are participating in a"smart" thing as
well.

Lets hear from everyone folks,,, If not us, who?
