A lot depends upon the the wavelength of the microwaves. Some wavelengths are
absorbed strongly by water molecules, others hardly at all.

Haven't checked to see whether exactly this topic is there, but Mark
Prado's www.permanent.com site has a lot of material on microwave

absorbed strongly by water molecules, others hardly at all. And in fact, the frequency chosen for SPS is intentionally one that to which even very dense water vapor is fairly transparent. It's one of the chief advantages of SPS over ground solar: the power is not only coming out 24 hours a day, but rain or shine as well.

something like 2.54 GHz ? That number does seem to ring a bell. And a couple of years ago, I got notification that thefrequency of choice for power transmission was fixing to be auctioned off by the government for communication purposes. SPS advocates were being asked to e-mail their representatives to oppose the sale. I did that, but never did hear how it all turned out.

With regards to the problem of creating a pressure vessel for the inner hull of
the construction shack, I have been doing some research. One particular
Aluminium magnesium alloy consists of 95% Al and 5%Mg. The alloy is used for
ship building on Earth. In its non-heat treated form, the alloy has a yield
strength of 275N/mm. The alloy should be relatively easy to produce from lunar
materials, given that both Aluminium and Magnesium are abundant in lunar soils.
