I noticed some of the communications, like on the BBS is not the most adult like, thus I want to remind some of use this agian:
I suggest what every subject, we consider this:
Common errors & survival tips in lobbying
10 things not to do:
1. Never be critical of personalities & criticize issues and philosophies, BUT NEVER THE PERFORMER.
2. Never threaten
3. Never let your glands rule your heart and head, stay calm, and if you lose your cool, you lose your case.
4. Never lie or tell half-truths, nor conceal or distort important facts.
5. Never waste a legislator's time, it's precious always be brief and to the point.
6. Never butt in when another lobbyist is talking with a legislator.
7. Never tinker with another lobbyist's bill unless it's unfriendly legislation that you're trying to kill or amend.
8. Never criticize or berate another lobbyist in public.
9. Never make public assumptions about another person's motives.
10. Never make your enemies mad enough to work against you.
10 helpful hints
1. Aim for a consensus rather than scoring a victory and it's rare that anyone get 100 percent of what he or she wants.
2. Be accessible to legislators and other lobbyists.
3. Talk with your enemies so they may be your friends in the future on another issue. LIKE NASA PEPOLE.
4. Assign the right surrogate to talk with a legislator so they vote for whom more than for what, and talking doesn't mean much unless the talker has influence.
5. Know your bill and be ready to defend it at any time. Know the Facts.
6. When giving testimony, always be prepared to say, "yes" if a legislator asks: "Have you read the bill?"
7. Carefully choose your issues, (Eagles don't chase flies)
8. When you invite a legislator to lunch or dinner, try not to talk issuesuse the time to build goodwill.
9. Follow a principle of Socrates, and never directly contradict another person's point of view; if you disagree, do it abliquely.
10. Alben Barkley once said, "When all else fails, start quoting the Bible." I have done that one at work many times, and it works well.
If you look on the BBS, you may see many examples to these rules :) I strongly sugest study of it :)
