From the AIA website's 2001 report.
http://www.aia-aerospace.org/stats/yr_ender/yrendr2001_text.pdf
Space Sales
Space sector sales increased 2.2% to $31 billion in 2001. NASA and other non-DOD federal agencies increased their space spending by $927 million to $14.3 billion, while DOD's space spending increased modestly. Commercial space sales, at an estimated $3.7 billion, declined in 2001. The financial difficulties of Low Earth Orbit satellite operators and the nation's export policies continue to cast a shadow over this once vibrant sector.
