Hi all

Sorry, nice try, but having SPSs is not going to free the USA of
"entanglements" in the Middle East and with OPEC, unless US foreign policy
changes dramatically and the USA becomes isolationist again, like before
1898. Oh, and also ends any ties with Isreal.

Hello people!!! The USA is setting itself up to rule the world and to
guarentee cheap oil for the forseable future. Why would anyone in the US
political establishment want to invest money in an industry that gives such
pathetic levels of donations to politicians.

Cheers

Wrong. You may disagree with US actions in the middle east, but there
is no way any sane person who has even a passing familiarity with the
fact could possibly conclude that the US wants to "Rule the World."
This kind of inane assertion serves no purpose but to inflame hostility.

The current US administration has unfortunately failed to grasp the
fact the "superpower" has no meaning outside the context of a bipolar
cold war, but that's very far from wanting to rule the world.

People, let's please go to other venues for political discussions (I myself do this on Usenet), and limit this maillist to technical and scientific discussions. Discussing the potential of SPS to reduce our dependence on foreign oil peripherally relates to SSI research. A discussion of whether the US is or is not determined to take over the world does not.
Many Thanks,
