Best of luck, but I think you are asking your very interesting political and
sociological questions in entirely the wrong forum. As I see it, SSI is a
bunch of engineers doing engineering work, rather like the Manhatten
Project. It will be up to someone else to decide what to do with the tools
and techniques that are developed.
For discussions about politics and sociology, I suggest that you join a
discussion group with a bunch of futurists. I can suggest a couple if you
are interested.

Fascinating. I am probably as interested as the p&s as in the engineering...
wait a sec, not, not really... :) but still I'd like to take a peek, please

I just finished an article on space solar power for an online science
discussion site:
-- it's mostly a report from this year's NSS annual meeting in San Jose,
where we heard from David Criswell among others. But I also added some
notes on funding at the end - does anybody on this list know exactly
what's going on with NASA funding for space solar power? The site at:
http://spacesolarpower.nasa.gov/
seems not to have been updated since September 2001... Did something
happen as a consequence of the National Academy report, or was it the
new administration just cutting funding?
