This is a good opportunity to capture an asteroid and build something
in-situ. Or, leave it in its current orbit, - it apparently comes
very close at times.... I wonder what its made of?

It's made of rock going at 30km/s :-)

There's essentially no way to catch it (unless someone wants to build an Orion).

Might be interesting to shoot it up with a kinetic probe though; just to find out a bit more, but it's of no direct practical significance as far as mining goes.

something. we don't generally know the composition of all NEO's

Catchers mitt??? Oh the Idea of capturing an asteroid is not a new
idea. And, it would be much easier if the earths gravity could
assist us. Yes there is essentially no way to catch it now just like
there is no way to land on the moon.

I think that depends on what its made of...and/or what we want to
build. Remember a rock at the top of a gravity well may be more
valuable than a rock on the moon.

I think that depends on what its made of...and/or what we want to
build. I suggest you calculate the minimum delta-v needed to rendezvous with it; and get back to us. Just because it is physically close, doesn't make it at all easy to reach. Space is only 100km away...
Remember a rock at the top of a gravity well may be more
valuable than a rock on the moon.
Only if you can catch up with it; otherwise it is worthless.

yes but this one may be closer than 100km... The minimum Delta V is
greatly reduced if you can use arobraking.

The issue here is we may have more arobraking than we want.

I think that if they determine that it is going to hit the earth,
these issues would seem less challenging.

Nope. The asteroid now scores a zero on the Torino scale- it's just been downgraded.

You would do that on the way back. You've got to catch up with it first, and with such high speeds; that's extremely difficult.
