In one of his short stories, Arthur C. Clarke used that phrase, going near the Sun at night, as a flippant way of saying that the exploration ship went in the shadow of a sun-grazing asteroid.
So yes, I believe that it *is* possible to go near the Sun at night. :-)

Hey if it's not on CNNNN or the Weekly Daily Show I don't consider
it a credible source.
