...that the only way human spaceflight activities are given the
recpect and proper funding and support is if a metorite crashes into
Earth, but does not destories civilization, only damages it.

Then people would relize why it is important to support the space
program and space settlement.

Well, you'd think so wouldn't you? But sometimes I get
the feeling if that happened, alot of people would
just say "Oh no, we can't go into space NOW--we've got
this big MESS to clean up!" %-P

No, better to get off the planet before the Big One
hits, and then say, "Told you so!" ;-)
