This is a very sensationalist article yet there is
some truth to the warning. For awhile the groups with
most information have been funding wierd studies like
Paleotempestology. Opec does not want its oil to go
out of favor.

The connection that is important to me is with the
military. The war in Iraq could be seen as the US's
attempt to stabilize the flow of oil for its own
benefit. Saddam was simply a bad steward of a
critical resource and had to be fired.

This means to me that long range military thinkers are
beginning to wake up to the idea that the climate is
changing and there will be a squabble for resources.
This means that any space development will be watched
very carefuly by China and Europe and sure to be
contested if it violates some sense of neutrality.

My motivation to pursue space development is in
response to what I see is as a growing crisis in the
next 30 years. These guys have it at 2020 which is a
little early yet it does not change the reality that
my daughter will face of high energy prices, scarse
resources, and lots of bad news about famines etc.

I would hope to avoid this fate or even the risk of it
and see the potential of lunar development to be
capable of this. This makes me see any coalition that
will produce this as good. What will solve this will
yield everything else that everybody in the space
movement wants.
