This will impact NASA as they are at the heart of
funding for organizations that study this.

This means the sciences part of NASA may be boosted at
the expense of other priorities.

If the sea does show signs of rising the first
indication may be the insurance industry as they write
policies on the property that would be damanged.

In the event of sea level rise Congress is unlikely to
side with the coastal states as there are 26 without a
significant risk of flooding.

Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas,
Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri,
Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, North Dakota,
New Mexico, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Dakota,
Tennessee, Utah, Vermont, West Virginia,
Wisconson, Wyoming

Any attempt to compensate property loss and build
seawalls at the expense of higher taxation would meet
fierce resistance in the Senate. The populous states
of California, Texas, Florida, New York may have other
ideas.

Summary:

If there is any truth to this report then the space
movement will have a new supporter/competitor in the
form of the military dictating NASA priorities and
research. The space race to LEO may not be so
friendly and private enterprise may be locked out due
to a tense political situation.

so-called 'secret' Pentagon report:

The report was never classified, and was published well before a hysterical
media outlet got ahold of it and decided to make an issue of it. The report
was intended as a HYPOTHETICAL worst case scenario IF the worst parts of all
the climate change predictions came to pass. That likelihood is remote, even
in the words of said report's authors. The Pentagon is tasked with being
prepared for worst case scenarios, and so they commission reports like this
all the time. This is why I can't stand hysterical greenies... All emotional
reaction, little thinking things through. In fact, you might say they thrive
on that modus operandi.

Hi Val,

You are correct that this was never a truly 'secret'
undertaking or intended to be a plan of action. I
find it interesting that the top echlons of the
military would commission a report that was bound to
be harshly critical of the Bush administration's
position on global warming.

This indicates to me that the military is going to
take the initiative behind the scenes to find out for
themselves bypassing the IPCC and everybody else in
their conclusions. Military thinkers do not wait for
the evidence of a threat to be in the high 90% before
acting. The energy lobby and Cato institute seem bent
on demanding this level of proof if I am not mistaken.

There is a lot of evidence that big changes are in the
works climatically. In the last 40 years the
following has been observed in detail.

1) The Northern Icepack has thinned 40% and shrunk in
coverage in the summer.
2) The North Atlantic conveyor has become sharply less
saline (ie dense).
3) Major ice shelf's like the Larson B have collapsed.
4) Widespread permafrost melting in Alaska & Russia
threaten 1/3 of all roads and structures.
5) The ages of last occurace of these changes is
beyond the last ice age and interglacial warming
period (benthic & ice core records).

Notice I did not include Carbon Dioxide as that can be
highly confusing what is going on there. The military
looks for erosion of their fontiers and for my
reasoning, this evidence sure fits the bill.
