How much would these Space-Umbrellas cost? Each space craft now costs $ 10 of Millions to billions. How much would it cost to orbit them? How much damage would be done to Earths industry and atmosphere by prepare them and to the atmosphere by launching them? If you are proposing industrializing space with factories, I am in favor of looking at those details. Moving humans and human industry to space may remove the need to use the Space-Umbrellas, but the prospects of moving billions of people to space at 10s of millions dollars each is equally out of the question for probably several centuries. He did indicate $ trillions. Several respondents
indicated painting large areas on earth with white
paint would do the job easier, while the real solution
is to mediate carbon input. So much for a big reason
to go to space,,,,however,,,
I note the milatary is studying a circular mag lev
track to accelerate 10 kg payloads into orbit, as a
possible suppier of raw materials for space
industrialization at 1/100 current launch costs. Could
also be used to launch small missles or really
acceleration hardened satellites(capable of tolerating
2000 Gs of angular acceleration). I like the idea of
launching nuclear wastes into a 1,000,000 year orbit.
Get rid of the stuff while keeping it where we can
retrieve it if we find a viable economic use for it.
Would possibly make the accelerator even more
economical, as more launches per yer equate to lower
average launch cost,,,
