I tend to agree, but I also can't completely rule it out.

However, I did notice mention on their site of "Tri Alpha Energy, Inc.
biggest effort, funded by Paul Allen. Unlike the other approaches
here, Tri-Alpha has been more successful at fundraising."

This sounds interesting -- I had already thought of Allen as a possible
backer for Bussard's effort. My google-fu failed to turn up any more
information on Tri-Alpha, though. Anyone heard of them, or know where
I can find out more?

P.S. I hope people don't think this thread is too off-topic... if any
of these approaches to fusion (other than tokamak) pan out, I really do
think they'll do more to advance space colonization than anything else
since the invention of rocketry.

Heck, I can't rule out FTL and (mass)reactionless
space drives either, but I consider them a low order
probability until someone can present a working model
or a very credible explanation of how they're supposed
to work. Bussards approach has some pretty good
physics behind it. It appears to me he's on the right
track,,,
Maybe someone with deep pockets and a sense of
adventure will fund WB 7 and 8, then we'll see,,,
