Would a TV show help get the idea out to the general public?
A TV show based on space tourism could be as serious as _Hawaii
Five-O_ or as silly as _The Love Boat_.

While this group may not be the best place to discuss
hypothetical TV shows in detail, I would be willing to start a

There is only one (maybe 2) basic core reasons for humans to go
beyond LEO, That is for the establishment of space settlements or a
space based civilization. Everything else are details.

Defying Gravity got a poor review in the Washington Post this morning.

On the other hand, I just saw the show is Canadian in origin. One of my
grandmothers was Canadian. One of the astronauts who just returned from
ISS, Julie Payette, is Canadian. The more I find out about her, the
more impressed I am. Here's an astronaut who headed up the Canadian
astronaut corps at one point. She speaks English and French fluently
and is conversant in four other languages. She plays the piano. She
has sung in public with the Montreal Symphony. If you haven't figured
out that I have special respect for my paternal grandmother's country,
you are really slow on the uptake.

It could be the reviewer for the Post did not understand something
really good. I'll let people know what I think after I've seen the
show.

I just recently found out about _Defying Gravity_. It seems to have gotten little or no promotion.

Yes, I remember _Star Cops_, though I didn't get to see much of it.

And then there is _Planetes_, which I've seen even less of.

Six years old, Japanese, don't know what promotion it got in Japan, only anime fans seem to know about it in the US

Saw all nine episodes, had a cool theme song by one of the singers from Moody Blues! They started off being cops on ISS, then went to a Moon base and by the time the series ended It look like they were going to setup shop on Mars. It was an excellent show, good acting and the effects were on par with say Blake's 7, which would have been considered BBC's state of the art at that time, not great but good enough. The weak point was some of the crimes/stories where a bit far fetched, Like one episode where one Scientist tried to smuggle some Columbian artifacts to Mars, so he could 'discover them on Mars', another episode featured a Scientist sabotaging a Mars bound Cargo ship, so the crew would be forced to use his highly experimental cryogenic sleeping system.
The episodes are available on DVD, but only region 2 format

Ah yes, I have all 6 disc, some of the bonus features: interviews with NASA scientist on orbital debree, a photo gallery of actual debree that survived reentry.

Also O'Neil colonies do appear in the various Gundam anime series/movies/OVAs, the odd thing is they don't refer to the LaGrange Points as LaGrange Points but as 'Sides' don't know why.

Also there is one American Live Action SF TV series that did feature life on an O'Neil type space colony: Babylon 5, and that was fairly successful, it lasted its planned 5 years
