The idea of digging in has been around a long time but these lava tubes make it easy. I suppose we will likely use inflatable environmental habitats inside the tubes, at least until our presence ramps up from pure exploratory to industrialization levels. If we develop nuclear propulsion(such as the "nuclear light bulb") we could use that to drill tunnels thru a crater wall(20,000 degree C exhaust would vaporize anything) and that would open up the entire lunar surface for habitation.

So, this is a vertical lava tube, and you have two hundred
something feet across, or this is the entrance to a lava
tube of God knows how big?

Sorry. I got so caught up asking my question that I forgot
to say: thank you for posting this. It sounds cool, whether
it's a small vertical tube or a tube entrance to the Lunar
Wonderland.
