I know this wouldn't be a solution for all of Europe, but where the UK
is concerned, why can't we consider off-shore rectennas?

Even if a farmer's crops were under a rectenna, that doesn't mean his
farmhouse would be under one. So I wouldn't consider wireless computing
or satellite TV to be issues. As for cell phone use and GPS out in the
field, with all that metal hardware overhead, it seems like some
replacement system would be easy to arrange.
