Is the Final Frontier Just One Ride Away On a Space Elevator?

I disagree with you. The space elevator if it were
even possible is certainly not cheap. First of all
there doesn't exit a material that it can be made
from. If you made it of steel, it would be so big and
massive that the earth-moon-space_elevator would
deform the 3 bodies to look like a lop-sided dumbbell,
not to mention what it would do to the length of the
day, the atmosphere, etc.
So you need nanotube fibers and cables. Even
assuming you can get them developed for free, there
cost will not be free.

Instead of a space elevator, consider 'Orbital Rings
and Jacobs Ladders', a JBIS article by Paul Birch.
It could be built now, out of present day materials,
for a fraction of the mass, to LEO instead of GEO, and
at a tiny fraction of the cost! All you space
elevator nuts really need to read his article!!!

If you want to wait for someone to invent,
manufacture, then sell you Nanotube rope, I hope that
your not in any hurry to get to space.
