And I'll offer up a prediction here. At this point we really don't know
which of our crop plants could tolerate 24 hour/day sunlight. But if it
should turn out that some fraction or all could tolerate this, we might
provide unceasing sunlight to our growing areas in order to boost
yields.
I predict that this notion of red-illuminated greenhouses might be more
likely in that scenario than if we are forced to stick with the 24 hour
day/night cycle which we know will work. If the greenhouses are
eternally illuminated, good air circulation to and from the heat
radiators would be vital. But if on a day/night cycle, the agricultural
areas will cool down considerably at night. Smaller heat radiators and
less-rapid air flow would be adequate.
