They're doing a remake of that film and the previews look pretty good.
..."What part of this contradicting every evidence from 500 million years of natural evolutions tendency to create predatory life forms are we missing?" All that huggy bear and wuvy baloney. Now, when the crew of the Nostromo arrived at the piloting chamber of the relic spaceship and saw the fossilized pilot with his chest blown open I thought, "that's more like it. Hostility."
A lot of people don't realize this but the premise of ALIEN was that the creature was genetically engineered by the ancient creators of the fossil ship as a biological weapon to infest and destroy a second (unseen in the film) space faring race. Dan Obbanon's original premise then has humanity stumbling onto relics from an ancient interstellar war.
As the old saying goes regarding messages from extra terrestrials, "for God's sake, don't answer"
Of course, the usual comeback is "If they're advanced they will be above and beyond violence".
Right, just like as Humanity has advanced technologically we've movied increasingly away from violence as a means to an end.
