Regular farming is pretty energy-intensive too, and relies mainly on
oil (and remember to take into account the transportation of the
produce from the farms to the cities). A vertical farm, right in the
middle of a city and serving nearby stores and markets, can use
substantially less energy -- and the energy it does use is mostly
electric rather than liquid fuel.
