Powersats on Discovery Channel RIGHT NOW!

Joe,
I have an question which may seem off-point, but one I think worthy of
mention.
In addition to the spacesettlers discussion group I also belong to
several "green" discussion groups. Although I don't entirely agree with
the more strident doomsday scenarios that some in these green discussion
groups envision, I do agree that rampant consumerism and a "throw-away"
culture are not, in the long run, sustainable on spaceship Earth, or on
orbiting space colonies, lunar colonies, Mars colonies, etc.
My question is this: Have you found that any meaningful dialog
between "green" proponents and proponents of space settlement and
exploitation (such as powersats) is taking place?
I ask this because my experience so far is that while permanent
off-Earth settlement and the green movement share the same ultimate
goals - reuse,recycling, and conservation of resources and energy - the
green movement seems to be inward-looking to the extent that they are
focused on reducing our "carbon footprint" here on earth.
Although I've never seen it explicitly stated, I get the impression
that the massive earth-bound industrialization needed to achieve a
substantive expansion into space is contrary to their idea of reducing
our "carbon footprint". Am I wrong in this?
