Powersats on Discovery Channel RIGHT NOW!

I think I'm going to have to object to this one point. I don't care to ever leave Earth personally, yet I am a huge fan of space exploration, colonization and settlement. And yes, one of my favorite methods of doing so is the one outlined by Gerrard K. O'Neill. Read (and reading) The Case for Mars and The High Frontier back to back just for the contrast. Coming from somebody who doesn't really care where in the solar system he retires. I just want to see it done. If I can be a fan of near everything-space without any desire to go there myself, why should the same be a huge stumbling block for environmentalists to support a particular activity in space?

You're dealing with people who profoundly love the Earth, so when you
present space development to them you're talking to people who, by and
large, would not want to go themselves. That's a big obstacle.
