A reason to go to Mars

This idea has been around for over 70 years but it is the silliest or
stupidest idea I have heard.
There are plenty of resources on Mars and can as easily be mined using the
proper technique as minerals from asteroids.

The idea will still be around when I die but I seriously doubt it will ever
be used.
The additional minerals Mars could use will be bought from the O'Neil cities
roaming the solar system.
