Everybody: Just realized a few minutes ago a big plus in heading
of this link for us Deimos advocates! ("us" refers to me
& this mouse behind my kitchen stove)Note the delta-v difference
between going to our moon & going to Mars is only 300 m/s
(6.3 Km/s vs 6.0 Km/s). I've been assuming this was some kind
of error but just dawned on me they are including a swing by our
moon for Mars destined vehicle. In other words for Mars mission
you probably wait > a year for Mars to be in right position relative
to Earth then why not wait another week or two to get our moon
also right for getting that catapult effect.
Since above 6.3 Km/s vs 6.0 Km/s includes soft landings on
respective targets, replacing Mars with its moon (Deimos) should
bring the 6.3 Km/s down to perhaps < 6.0 Km/s.
That would mean going for rendezvous with Deimos for less
delta-v than going for soft landing on our Moon! What a Christmas
present for me, hoping I get to enjoy it before someone in group
brings up some big oversight in my above logic.

It lists out asteroids in order of dV required to reach them, and includes some other useful information.

Joe: Guess I overstated my opposition to a Moon Colony first.
Ireally believe colony construction will spring up on our
moon, Mars's surface & moons &all kinds of asteroids once
someone "breaks the ice" & starts to build first one.

Lucio: Thanks for link, guess I got mislead or misread that
first link I ref'd. Also found another NASAsite that
lists
1011 PHA's (NEA's that come within ~4.65 million miles of
earth's orbit).It let's you bring up data on each at:
http://neo.jpl. nasa.gov/ orbits/ Of first 35 I've checked only
10 went to > 2 AU's from sun. However another 13 seem to
go outside Mars's orbit. I still cannot see how a vehicle could
go to an asteroid that goes further from sun than Mars with
less delta v than a vehicle needs to go to Mars (not incl'g a
soft landing on Mars's surface).
