Making space habs possible

To make space habs possible, we will need the ability to integrate a huge
number of different disciplines. A skill that we are still to acquire in
conducting our affairs on our planet. On planet earth the basic life support
systems are provided by Nature and there has been a huge reserve in terms of
resources (easily accessible oil, coal, iron ore etc), and in terms of the
earth's ability to absorb pollutants. There has been no necessity so far to
examine how one part of the system dovetails into another part. For instance
we see no attempt by our engineering community to harmonize such issues such
as population growth, available land for constructing townships, land for
agriculture, land for forests etc.

The CRUCIAL issue is the way in which we communicate. Most communication
today by newspaper and TV, can be classed as info-entertainment. There is no
attempt made by the media to make communication a part of problem
solving. How will humans communicate when they start to make space habs?
