Market economy connecting Earth and Mars?

The opinion than market economy will enable colonisation of space has been
frequently expressed in this group. It will however be good if we keep in
mind that effective Market Economy requires that goods and services are
transportable within the sphere of influence of the intended market economy.
We could possibly have a market economy connecting the Moon and the Earth. I
fail to see how there can be a market economy connecting Mars to Earth.

The state of Kerala in India, where I live, produces close to 90% of the
natural rubber in India. The farmers in this state are deeply dependent on
this commodity and naturally try to obtain as high a price as possible for
their product; hence there is a clash of interest between the producers of
natural rubber and the consuming industries. Every now and then the
consumers of this product threaten to import the product from Malayasia, or
Brazil - places that are far away. In Space, with its huge distances, this
sort of option will not be available.

Finally, whether it is Space or Earth, communities will have to decide on
their goals and work towards achieving these goals. The most important
requirement for this is knowledge and intelligence - a free economy
will also play a role.

I have just started reading a book on Buddhism. Apparently they have a
different take on ethical issues. While Christians have this concept of sin,
and humans being natural born sinners, the Buddhists see Ignorance as the
cause of all problems.
