You have hit the nail on the head. I agree with you fully. But we have a
problem, modern science is ill prepared to take on such a challenge. We at
present have only one kind of science in which we excell, the one dealing
with nonliving things. Our sciences dealing with living things are in the
doldrums. You take any science dealing with living things and you will find
it is full of holes.

Medicine (At least 50% of the advances seem to be due to better gadgetry)
Health (We have the largest proportion of fat people the world has ever
seen)
Agriculture (At present there is no idea of recycling waste, how are we
going to run space habs with such ideas)
Education (What children learn effortlessly by the age of three is not
matched by what they learn thereafter)
Forestry (You will soon have no forests left)
