Television

I would guess that there's a reasonable level of interest in a well
written space-based TV series (translation: high enough ratings to
attract sponsors). "Battlestar Galactica was pretty popular. All you
need are some good script writers who prefer realistic science over
alien predators, a producer with enough money to bankroll the
Enterprise (sorry, I couldn't resist the pun), a director who believes
that depicting a realistic vision of life in space is more important
than expressing his artistic style, and a TV executive willing to take a
chance on losing his corner office if the thing flops. It sounds like a
piece of cake to me.
Seriously, though, I always liked the movie "Outland" with Sean Connery
and Peter Boyle. The plot was a remake of "High Noon" but I liked the
gritty way life in a working space outpost was depicted. It seemed much
more believable (to me, anyway) than the sterile space ships of "2001
Space Odyssey".
