Wow! Why has no one in group responded on this?
I threw cold water on idea away back ~ 2002
someone may remember & just noted post #10491 by
Dave Handwerk (Feb 11, 2008) also had negative
response. However I've seen somewhere they have a
concept to make the tension support cable using the
C-C bond like in diamond. Seems like they claimed
this gives a far higher strength to weight ratio making
whole concept feasible. Is that $600 billion cost est.

How do most Spacesettlers expect to put all the people
into orbit to colonize solar system & beyond? Seems to
me it MUST be by a Mass Transit Space Shuttle or by a
Space Elevator! Don't tell me everyone's gone back to
Startrek's old "beam me up Scotty" concept!
One minus point on Space Elevator is "too many eggs
in one basket", if it gets struck by meteor whole $600
billion plus >> 800 people are gone in a flash. If my
shuttle gets struck we loose the 800 passengers plus

Online registration for the 2009 Space Elevator Conference (SEC) is now up
and running at the website

Please register for the conference as soon as possible!! Conference registration costs increase after the July 15, 2009 "Early Bird" registration deadline. The 2009 SEC will be held from August 13 - 16, 2009 at the Microsoft Conference Center in Redmond, WA. There will be a free, public presentation on the evening of Aug. 12 at Microsoft.

Ben Shelef of Spaceward has chosen to hold the 2009 NASA Centennial Challenge Strong Tethers Competition at the 2009 SEC in Redmond, WA. The 2009 SEC is excited to provide the venue for the tether competition. The tether competition will be either on Thursday the 13th or Friday the 14th.
Stay tuned to the web site for further details. Of course, competition team members will get free admission on competition day. Come to the conference and root for your favorite tether team!
