Yeah, that was more or less the idea: heat a chamber with the mirror and vaporize the contents, which then escape from your nozzle creating thrust, which should result in any vaporized metals moving directly away from the mirror and the vessel.

Why not seperate the mirror from the vessel holding the material? Say using a transparent sphere with an open nozzle on end, then the mirrors are outside the sphere reflecting light on the sphere heating up the material inside. Even if the sphere itself becomes fouled over time, you could either clean it, replace it, or just heat up the now increasingly opaque sphere itelf which in turn heats up the material inside.
