Why Mine C-Type Asteroids?

Don't know the answers to your questions, but it does remind me of an online exchange I had a few years back. I had heard somebody say that when Apollo astronauts were trained on geology, they were instructed to ignore anything which looked like meteoric rock, and to only return samples which looked lunar-native. I then repeated that somewhere else, and somebody asked me how an Apollo astronaut would distinguish meteoric material from native. I didn't have an answer for that.

This thread reminds me of one I started on a space science forum back in
2006:

...unfortunately, I never got good answers to the central question. We
have such a wealth of lunar data these days, it's hard to believe that
the impact deposits we want aren't visible there somewhere... but I lack
the geology to figure it out.

Anyone here with a strong geology background want to take a stab at the
problem?
