Hitsquad, what is your agenda? It has become painfully obvious that it IS NOT space settlement, like the rest of us in this discussion group. Why join a group of people that you seem to be in unilateral disagreement with? Are you here simply to hector us and brow beat us with your own 1%er ideas of creating a gigantic worker ant hive of Earth with soylent green for food and multiple billions of biological units that are no longer humans, but simply numbers in a calculation. These people will, in all likelihood, never see the light of day, let alone anything remotely similar to nature. Theyll spend their existences in 8x8x8 cells, a miles thick crust on the Earth that those in the lower levels will have no hope of ever escaping. Therell be no freedom, because such an anthill could not exist with any access to individuality or individual freedoms. Creativity would be crushed as a threat to the maintenance of the all-important status quo.

This is just about as far from the agenda of this group as Ive encountered lately. Space settlement is all about freedom. We feel that space represents the biggest and best opportunity for the Human race to escape our overcrowded (already) and outgrown nest planet for the freedom of space, where we can expand and create and lead fulfilling lives with our friends and families as and how WE WILL. The one chance weve got to survive as a species if , no, when the next planet killing cosmic rock comes Earths way. We see space colonies, in whatever form, as seeds, if you will, like dandelions scattering in the wind, carrying man and his planetary dna to the stars and galaxies in a massive diaspora that will end only with the end of space (hopefully). This whole outlook seems to be at odds with your own viewpoints, so why harangue us with your diatribe against space settlement, when you could simply join, or start, a group of your like-minded peers?

Sorry if Im blunt, but I just had to ask.

The relative masses of the solid bodies of the Solar System. Earth at 48% and Venus at 39% dominate.

Thanks. So, plugging that into my tiny-10psi-room-for-each-person formula:

"
There's only 12e18 kilograms of nitrogen on the planet (4e18 in the atmosphere, and 8e18 in the crust and mantle). At 12 kg per person, that's enough to build only 1 quintillion people, allowing each 2 kg for protein, with 10 kilograms left over for 500 cubic feet each of 10-psi atmosphere.
"

...we get maximum populations of 1.89e21 people (Kuiper), 9.33e22 people (Oort), and 9.52e22 people (Kuiper + Oort) -- or 95.2 sextillion people. I hope they all like their (not quite) 8x8x8 foot rooms.
