True, people are better educated and we have technical capabilities we
never had before.

It is unfortunate that I started this debate using the term 'utopia', which
seems to have derailed the debate.

All that I wanted to emphasise was, O'Neil was confident that with existing
technology we could put up space habs. Putting up space habs is not only
about putting up the mechanical structure. You also have to figure out
basically how to recycle at least 95% of the stuff used in the space hab
since it would be impractical to import these from elsewhere.

Which means to survive in space we have to emphasise 'local markets' as
against 'global markets' as being done on our planet, which many think is
no longer sustainable.

My question was plainly whether we could develop the mindset and the
technology which we will need to survive in space as soon as possible so
that these could be put to effective use on planet Earth.
