Yes, I did not realize it but I agree that the introduction to the
discussion group understates the case for fund raising in support of
space development.

The method ASF intends to use is to set up a foundation/business
network with an objective to raise money that will support an
asteroid/comet detection program, space elevators, and space
settlements in Earth orbit. The idea is that developing space in
this manner will also provide an escape path from the worst possible
asteroid/comet impact scenario.
