Our space settlement simulation game, High Frontier, is now available in
its first public release.
Most of us here probably agree that planetary chauvinism has become
rampant -- there is quite a lot of talk in the news lately about
settlements on Mars, or the Moon, but essentially zero mention of
orbital space settlements.
This game is intended to change that.
You can help in two ways: first, buy the game, which enables us to spend
more time on it (since I have to balance my time between this and paying
work). Second, tell your friends and colleagues: tweet about it
(hashtag #HighFrontier), post it to your Facebook or Google+ timelines, etc.
The current version of the game lets you design space colonies using
several different base geometries, including cylinders with endcaps of
configurable shape (including inverted), plus torus, sphere, etc. The
app then computes G level, livable area, mass of major components, and
so on. It's a sandbox game with no specific goal at this point; in fact
it's more of a space colony CAD program than a game at all. But more
game-like features (and a lot more simulation features) will be coming
in future versions.
Thanks and ad astra,
- Joe
