Personally, I don't see it as bad as all that. I know a lot of kids
(since I have two myself), and most of them are reasonably bright,
clean, and hard-working. I do worry sometimes about kids getting sucked
into video games... but then, when I was a kid, my dad worried just as
much about us getting sucked into non-video games (like Dungeons &
Dragons). And we turned out OK; today's kids probably will too.

Moreover, the appeal of video games can be turned to our advantage.
Kerbal Space Program has bred a whole new generation of people who are
not only interested in spaceflight, but actually *understand* orbital
dynamics like no previous generation in history. My boys have always
thought rockets were cool, but it's only after playing KSP that they
watch rocket launches as they happen, comment intelligently on things
like "insertion burn" and "ISP", and have started pulling all my
spaceflight books off the shelf and actually reading them.

This is why we are making High Frontier... we want to take that same
power to generate interest and understanding, and apply it to orbital
colonies.

We can moan and complain about the lack of enthusiasm and ambition in
America's yoots, or we can try to DO something about it. I choose the
latter. You can help by pointing people to: http://highfrontier.com/

Cheers,
- Joe
