Yeah, it seems like if you had a budget of (say) 20 kg to spend on a
computer just for personal use, you could easily store 3 or 4 years'
worth of games, video, and books on it.

And if somebody's just not into entertainment? Pick someone with a
project. Somebody who wants to write a novel, or an operating system,
or another doctoral thesis, or invent a new language, Tolkien-style...
whatever. There are lots of projects that can keep a focused person
busy for a year or more, without requiring anything more than a computer.

This is why I've never been too impressed by the "they'll go nuts cooped
up for 8 months" argument. If you can't find half a dozen people who
would be perfectly happy cooped up for that long, you're not looking
very hard.
