It appears that Interstellar inadvertently vindicated

The 2007 animated feature
Battle for Terra
features a conflict between a peaceful planet and the humans who want to terraform it. The humans desperately need to do something, because their generation ship is falling apart. They have the capability to build domed cities on the surface of a planet with a poisonous atmosphere, or to terraform the planet (wiping out all native life in the process), but fixing their generation ship or building a brand new one or some other space-based solution is utterly beyond them because...
Because the movie would've been a short one if they quickly established friendly relations with the aliens and set about building O'Neill habitats. No friendship arc between the human soldier and the alien girl, no military coup, no specter of genocide as perhaps the only solution.
And perhaps it never occurred to the writers that there was this other option, the one which doesn't require that the humans limit themselves to small outposts on somebody else's world, extinction, or genocide?
