Demonstrably untrue (unless your definition of "seriously looked into
it" is "believes in ET").

I, for example, have looked into it quite seriously, and not only do I
see no evidence that ET has ever visited Earth, but in fact I see strong
evidence that no ET civilizations exist anywhere in our galaxy.
(Outside our galaxy, evidence is lacking, though theory suggests there
must be other civilizations *somewhere* on that scale.)

Again I suggest there must be other groups more interested in such things.
