actually i think we are going to use radio for a long, long time ..

its just that we are using it at lower and lower power (cell phone,
bluetooth and NFC anyone?) and more and more directed (satellite
communications) - we no longer blanket the entire universe with multi
megawatt transmitters, making the earth look brighter then the sun in
some limited narrow bands
