solar power sats have imho a problem ..

a solar cell in orbit will produce about 4 times the power over time
then the same sized cell placed on the ground in a good location (taking
nights, bad weather, and bad sun angles in account)

this means that over the lifetime of the solar cells the total cost of
the space system has to be less then 4 times of that of the ground
system (solar cell costs, transport, installation, servicing, transport
of power....) in order to be profitable

the solar cell itself will have identical cost

i have yet to see a good analysis that shows that space cell costs will
achieve this total cost goal
