So a Bigelow exterior with centrifuges mounted to spin perhaps along a single central beam in the inside (three: 1G, 1/3rdG, 1/6thG and a fourth gen-hab letting the critters try to deal with microgravity). Great thinking for saving the cost of developing the outer housing and fitting more lab area into a launcher.Not exactly off the shelf, I think, do they have a few in reserve already? If so, what are their sizes? If not, your point of it being a known technology and more or less just requiring more fabric and sewing would still seem a major cost saver.Fairings don't have to be filled up all the way but if a hab payload were packed in alone what could the expanded hab size potentially be? BEAM went up packed in a Dragon as around 6x8 ft and pumped up to 10x13, the Genesises (how do you plural Genesis) were launched on Dneprs with 5ft launch diameters that expanded to 8x14. Falcon Heavy's payload area is 42ftx17ft and New Glenn is expected to have a 22foot diameter .. you don't pack a rocket the way we stuff extra shopping bags in already filled cars but bigger areas do mean potentially bigger habs.How to get the centrifuges inside? Deflated already filled with gear ala Skylab dry or inflated empty?Two wheels to hold the total craft from tumbling? Or can one alternative wheel play against the forces of the spinning centrifuges? When centrifuges are spun down to check the critters, how will that affect the overall station stability? Is that a dumb noob question?What size do the centrifuges need to be to hold 6 generations of living beings without adding stresses to their already stressful testing? What is their coriolis limit (has anyone even done that level of testing on orbit?... I may be wrong but I still don't think so), if the centrifuges are big enough, can we stack them in layers so we are sure to have enough specimens to check at different times in the life cycle?.I never have enough time to work on G-Lab, but it's not as easy as just build a core and spin'er up. It's a host of great questions that bring up more great questions. If anyone wanted to shear this thread away from the original I'd love to hear more. So instead of having to design, validate, & build an entire (albeit fun-sized) space station - you just buy one off the shelf, and stick your equipment inside. I fully expect to see Bigelow stations on orbit before we see any major players moving on variable-G research. The challenge will be making centrifuges that can take full advantage of the inflated module's diameter. Some assembly might be required. But now we're just talking about a piece of lab equipment -- you could fabricate, assemble, and test on the ground as many times as necessary to get something smooth and safe, before packing it into a Bigelow station and launching it to orbit. - Joe
