In response to "As I see it, these other plans are all being argued between governments and
corporations. In other words, those who won't go anyway. " I have to ask, who other than governments (representatives of) have yet to go to space? Mircorp, see http://www.mirstation.com/, has tried, andJim Benson of Space Development Corporation (in my judgment) is doing something about this. See http://www.spacedev.com/. That web site quotes Benson, "Any country, any company, any person who can afford a private jet ormega-yacht can now afford their own deep space mission to the moon, to an asteroid or to Mars." -- Jim Benson. It sounds to me like corporations (at least one spacedev-corp.) are the way toget something done in this area. You can get their e-mail from http://www.spacedev.com/subscribe.htm Sincerely, Jay Huebner P.S. by the way if any of you are teacher, I wrote a paper "Teaching about the Colonization of Space," American Journal of Physics, vol. 43, pages 228-232, 1979, which is another way to try and get something done. It is really easy to incorporate ideas of colonizing space into physical science courses. I also go on speaking tours promoted by the American Chemical Society, speaking on this and other topics. I will be in the New Jersey/New York area in April. I also do research for NASA, but this is getting too much like a commercial so I will just say I am trying to do something about this and stop with that. JSH
