This doesn't have much to do with the specific reply
below, but what about revolution? It may seem
unthinkable now, but certainly, once people establish
themselves in space there are sure to be some sort of
wars (certain eatern nations near certain western
nations may cause problems). There will most
certainly be a little terrorism (and it becomes a
million times more dangerous). Also, many people may
feel angered by an earth nation, as 'free' as it may
be, that they might claim is 'unsympathetic to the
lifestyle, will, and wishes of outerspace. It is true
there may be a united 'state' established at L5 or
something similar, but this situation does seem
likely. A solution (this is the extreme end of the
idea) may be for one space organization (private) to
establish a constitution and bring certain 'things'
into space (even the US will resent a group of people
laying claim to space, or at least the space between a
certain height above the Earth's surface extending to
a certain point beyond the moon). These things may be
nukes (one biosphere vs. many). This is of course an
absurd suggestion, but it is a direct solution to
problems of the future (assuming the constitution is
drafted correctly, and the original leaders are not
corrupt). A possible constitution could call for a
police force and military, but beyond lthat leave law
making (specifically laws about society and how people
carry out their lives.) up to the individual colonies
or colony clusters (Nations under an Earth Sphere
conglomerate).
I am being serious in all that I say, but I am not
seriously hoping or expecting this situation to occur.
