Last time I looked into what it really meant to use a nuclear rocket of sufficent strength to get anything worthwhile in orbit, taking off under nuclear power involved droping little nuclear bombs out of the bottom of the craft and exploding them. Anybody have links to something better?
Whatever powers a lift to orbit had better not be spewing any radioactives unless the people involved want an early death by lynch mob. I have great respect of the power of the hatemongers to get their gun toting followers out in force if something like that should happen. The concept of nuclear within Earths atmosphere should dropped from our vocabulary. It will never be possible.
I rather liked the concept of Leik Myrabo's laser driven craft. Anybody know where his research stands?
