I asked friend who worked on Iridium what the launch costs were in relation to total costs to have some way of judging if launch costs on a commercial project are important. The following is his reply.

I never had access to any of that information. Iridium and Motorola kept
cost information very private.
I have heard the following. Each Sat. cost about $5 million, which did not include
the software or developement cost, just the parts and putting it together.
This was consider very cheap for producing a Sat. Motorola was producing one
Sat a week for about a year.
The cost for one Delta launch, with 5 sats was around $40 million. I heard
that launch cost were somewhere in the range of 50% to 60% of the total cost.
That $40 million does not include the cost of the Sats. So total cost was $40
million plus $25 million for the 5 Sats, plus development and software cost.
So $65+ million per Delta launch. I have no figures for the Russia (7 sats)
or the Chinese (2 sats) launches.
