BTW, Three Mile Island was a lot worse than people
realized at the time. It was several years before
radiation levels cooled to a level where inspectors could go in and take a
look. What they saw amazed them....about 50% of the core had actually
melted,
new estimates are that the plant was 30 minutes away from a total meltdown,
which was avoided by sheer luck.
Nobody in the plant actually knew what was going on at the time.
