Zubrin and O'Neill

The Discovery Channel, http://dsc.discovery.com/, ran a two hour program last night called Planet Storm. It recalls the dust storms of the 1930's in the USA, one in the 1990's in inland California that killed 17 people, and compared those desert storms with what Pioneer found on Mars when it first arrived. Namely a planet-wide dust storm with 200 mile per hour winds that raged for months. I could not but help thinking of Zubrin's "plastic wrap" green houses for Mars. The program is worth viewing, but is not well done and waists lots of time. Still, it should have a significant impact on anyone one thinking that colonizing Mars will be easy.The show will air (plastic?, as it will be on cable) again June 20, 1 AM and 9 PM, and June 24, 6 PM.
