Space Solar Power web links

The sunsat solar power schemes assume the use of solar power satellites
that are launched from Earth and assembled in space. This very much misses
the point of space based solar power. In order for Earth launched solar
power to be competitive, Earth side launch costs would need fall by a
factor of about 1000. That is impossible. We can say for certain that that
is impossible, because the cost of the required fuel is greater than that.
On the other hand, if launch costs are reduced by a factor of 20 and lunar
materials are used for 99% of satellite construction, the problem of launch
costs is almost completely circumvented.
My guess is that sunsat avoided all mention of the use of lunar materials,
in order to make the project sound more conservative and practical. But the
fact remains, that if all of the required SPS hardware is launched from
Earth, the SPS concept will never be practical. I guess a lot depends upon
how much you are willing to pay for your power.
